King’s Chapel

King’s Chapel

King’s Chapel was the work of Victorian architect Edward Blore, best known for his contributions to the design of Buckingham Palace.

The original building was commissioned by Derwent Coleridge, the son of the poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge. It was designed to serve as the chapel of the college of St Mark. The building was completed in 1841.

In the 1920s two educational institutions were merged thus creating the colleges of St Mark and St John. As a result, original chapel remained a part of the two colleges.

Coming forward to the 21st century it was decided that the stunning Grade II listed chapel located at 459A, Fulham Road would be converted into 2 residential properties each with their own basement swimming pool.

Aquascapes were awarded the contract to build both swimming pools and install a spa in St Mark’s House.

The work involved forming 2 deep basements, one internal and one external. The external basement is under a lodge attached to St Mark’s House and is accessed by a hidden walkway.

The lower ground floor at St John’s House includes not just a pool but a cinema and gym. All floors can be accessed by a private lift.
