Soho House – 180 The Strand
Aquascapes were honoured to be awarded the contract to design and construct the rooftop heated pool at 180 The Strand.
180 The Strand is a brutalist building that has undergone a dramatic transformation into a creative hub for Soho House.
As an existing building with restricted space and limited loading capability, this was a technical challenge for the design team at Aquascapes. That required us to design a pool that spanned the roof space between the existing structural frame. Using this method meant that no load was applied to the existing roof.
In essence, the pool floats over the existing roof and loads are transferred through the building frame direct to the foundations.
The introduction of our lightweight, flexible modular pool system finished in hand made and hand glazed Pyrolave tiles manufactured from volcanic lava created by an volcanic eruption 11,000 years ago, was ideally suited for this project. With its implementation, we have ensured that the client’s vision was achieved. The visually stunning rooftop pool, bar and restaurant with 2 floors of club space directly below reinforces the vision of the brand.
